Meet Banji Ayiloge, a
Committee Member

Banji Ayiloge, A journalist, political economist, Yorùbá nationalist, husband, father, and grandfather, is currently the Vice-chairperson of the Yorùbá Self-Determination Movement. A former National Secretary of Egbe Omo Yorùbá in North America, he also served as the State Commissioner for Information in Ondo state during the Alliance for Democracy party AD administration.

Banji Ayiloge is a lifelong activist and rights advocate and was a founding member of the Nigerian Peoples Forum based in New York during the struggle for the civil rule, a member of the NADECO ABROAD, a member of the UDFN and NALICON – all organizations that fought for the return of civilian administrations in Nigeria during the protracted military regime. He was the National Secretary of Egbe Omo Yorùbá (Association of Yorùbá Descendants in the US and Canada). During his tenure, Egbe Omo Yorùbá established the Yorùbá House in Washington DC – serving as the headquarters of the struggle against the military regime. The organization also found the Yorùbá radio – Ijinle Ohun Omo Odua - used to broadcast directly to Yorùbá people at home. He was also a co-producer and co-host of a television program – African Peoples Forum - cablecast on the public access channel in the New York area – that program was utilized to enlighten the American public, including all Nigerians resident in the area, about the worsening political situation in Nigeria.

Ayiloge was born in Ijare, Ondo state, where he had his Elementary Education, and his secondary education at Akure and Igbara-Oke, before attending the Nigerian Institute of Journalism in Lagos in the seventies. He worked for the Federal Ministry of Communications and later the DAILY TIMES group, THE NEW NIGERIAN, and after the LAGOS RADIO/TELEVISION as a senior reporter/Editor before traveling abroad. He attended the New York Institute of Technology, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree (B.F.A) in Communication Arts and a Master’s Degree in International Political Economy and Development from Fordham University in New York.
